Culture of Rajasthan
Culture defines a place and its people. History, regional uniqueness, external influences, seasons and festivals; all make for a precious cultural heritage. Rajasthan is truly blessed in both culture and heritage. In sheer diversity as well as richness, the culture of Rajasthan is unmatched.
Situated in the Thar desert, Rajasthan supposedly is as old as time itself. Rajasthan is home to the only temple in the world dedicated to Lord Brahma. The land that now forms Rajasthan is said to have existed in the time of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Rajasthan has a number of important Jain temples. Present known history goes back to at least 700 AD. In its present form, Rajasthan been formed by integrating the various erstwhile princely states, each with a distinct culture and lifestyle.
Rajasthan is a land of riotous colours, mellifluous folk music and dance; possibly to counter the harshness of life in the desert. But it is also blessed with natural beauty, as the ancient mountain range of Aravali is situated here. As life in Rajasthan depends on its camels, numerous fairs revolve around camels. Rajasthan experiences all four seasons and festivals linked to the seasons are also celebrated here with gusto.
