Jodhpur In Rajasthan Is Called The Sun City. Fairs And Festivals In Jodhpur Reflect The Rich Heritage And Culture Of Rajasthan. Jodhpur International Desert Kite Festival, Marwar Festival And Nagaur Fair Are Jodhpur Tourist Magnets.

Second largest city in Rajasthan, Jodhpur is a former princely state and also used to be known as Marwar. Called the Sun City for its round-the-year bright and sunny weather, it is also known as Blue City, due to the indigo tinge of the whitewashed houses around the Mehrangarh Fort.

Due to its location in the geographical centre of Rajasthan, Jodhpur forms a hub for tourists to travel around the state. Jodhpur has an amalgamation of Hindu, Mughal and other influences on its architecture, art and culture. Jodhpur monuments, fairs and festivals make it an important part of the travel circuit in India and Rajasthan.

Situated on the foothills of a sandstone hill, Jodhpur seems like an oasis in the desert. The famous Umaid Bhawan Palace, among India's most imposing palaces, the Mehrangarh Fort, Osiyan Temple, Jodhpur International Desert Kite Festival, Marwar Festival, and Nagaur Fair are all must visit in Jodhpur.

Jodhpur has a rich history though it is not very old. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a rajput chief, it later became a fief of the mughal empire and even later, it entered into a subsidiary alliance with the British empire.

High on quality and beauty, the wonderful handicrafts of Jodhpur are famous the world over. The bazaars of the city abounds in handicrafts like tie and dye fabrics with silver and golden embroidery, paintings, leather crafts, wooden articles, furniture, silver jewelery and juttis.

Cuisine Of Jodhpur

Jodhpur is famous for its spicy cuisine. Mawa Kachori, Pyaaj Kachori, hot and spicy Mirchibada( prepared from potato, onion, chili and gram flour) and Panchkuta are theĀ  famous dishes of the city.
