Sariska National Park In Rajasthan Is A Popular Tourist Destination For Its Tigers And Is Covered Under Project Tiger. Sariska Also Has Medieval Temples, Other Wildlife And Camel Safaris

Rajasthan - Alwar- Sariska

Sariska National Park is a Project Tiger reserve. Situated 37 km from Alwar in Rajasthan, it is easily accessible from Delhi and Jaipur.

About Sariska National Park

Lying near the Aravali mountain range, Sariska is fairly large with an area of 800 sq km covering hills, narrow valleys, scrub-thorn arid forests, dry deciduous forests, rocks and grasses.

Apart from Tiger, this wildlife reserve supports Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Hyena and Jackal as well as Sambar, Chausingha, Chital, Nilgai, Wild Boar and Langur. Also found here is a large bird population comprising of Peafowl, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Grey Partridge, Tree Pie, Crested Serpent Eagle Golden backed Wood Pecker, and the Great Indian Horned Owl.

Other sightseeing

Sariska houses the historic Kankwari Fort, where Emperor Aurangzeb imprisoned his brother, Dara Shikoh. This castle has an excellent view of flying eagles and vultures. Also present here are ruins of medieval temples of Garh-Rajor from the 10th and 11th centuries. These temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Sariska also has a palace that was built by the royal house of Alwar and is now a hotel.

Getting there and getting about

Jaipur is the nearest airport and nearest railway station is at Alwar. It is also easily accessible by road. Jeep safaris are easily available to get around Sariska National Park.
