Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur

Among The Beautiful And Luxurious Heritage Hotels Of Rajasthan, Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel In Jodhpur Stands Tall With A Charm All Its Own. A Stunning Beauty In Yellow Sandstone, It Is One Of The Largest Residences In The World.

Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace, JodhpurHotel Umaid Bhawan Palace is a gleaming palace made of golden yellow sandstone. Designed by the famous Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester, it has a bird's eye view of the town of Jodhpur from its location on top of the Chittar Hill.

Among the largest residences in the world, Umaid Bhawan Palace is now a heritage hotel run by the Taj Group (Indian Hotel Company). Part of this 347 room property completed in 1943 is still a residence of the royal family. The palace has a 105 foot high cupola. The architectural style is a happy mix of Rajput, Renaissance and Art Deco.

The property is spread out over 26 acres and has lush gardens. There are 25 rooms and 39 suites to select from; each comes with a plasma TV, DVD player and a mini bar of its own. Each room comes with modern luxury fittings taken for granted by a seasoned traveller, while retaining the old world charm of royal living.

The Maharaja Suite once was the personal suite of Maharaja Umaid Singh Ji, the original owner of this lavish property. Overlooking the crystal fountain courtyard, it is decorated with murals of leopards from Africa, tigers and horses. There is also a mural of pig-sticking, a Jodhpur Sport, made by Norblin. Flaming torch lamps in chrome, plush Ruhlmann sofas in faux leopard skin and a secret bar in the drawing room add the touch of perfection.

Maharani Suite originally the residence of the Maharani of Jodhpur, has a Norblin mural of the Goddess Kali, etched on black glass. Pink, black, chrome and mirror make this a mesmerising suite of rooms. It has a stunning view of the Mehrangarh Fort and the Palace Gardens. The suite's bath is made of pink Italian marble, from a single piece carved by Norblin.

Other suites and rooms are also amply done up with paintings, exquisite furnishings in Indian and other styles and have beautiful views of the Fort and gardens. Very often, peacocks can be seen enjoying the serenity of the gardens.
