Eklingji

Ekling Ji is a temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva and has 108 temples. Situated a mere 22 km from Udaipur in Kailashpuri, EklingJi was revered as the virtual ruler of Mewar and the Maharajas considered themselves to be Regents.

Kailashpuri where the temple complex is located, is in a beautiful valley. The existing complex was built in 734 AD over the ruins of a previously destroyed structure. The deity is enshrined here in His manifestation as Mahadeva Chaumukhi (The Lord Facing Four Directions). The pyramidal roof is composed of carved knots and decorated with coloured stones. The temple architecture itself resembles that of the Jain temples found in the neighbouring State of Gujarat.

The main temple occupies an area of 2500 sq ft and its spire rises to 65 feet. The temple complex is believed to have been founded by Acharya Vishwaroopa, a contemporary of Adi Sankara. This temple is linked with Sharda Math at Dwarka. A silver image of Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva is guards the entrance door and two other images inside are made of black stone and brass.

Situated amidst picturesque hills, the complex also has natural springs that welcome the tourists to take a break and relax. The complex attracts visitors from everywhere, throughout the year.
