Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur

Situated at a mere fifteen km from Jaipur, the Jaigarh Fort or the Victory Fort is intact in its entirety and can be counted among the most spectacular buildings in India. It is situated on top of the same hill that has Amber Fort at its footsteps. The two forts are interconnected through passages and many people count them as a single complex.

The fort is a citadel with a moat since it was to strengthen the city's defence. Jaigarh has the most amazing view of the Aravali Hills gradually disappearing into the desert haze and must not be missed at any cost during your trip to Jaipur. The royals also had their artillery made at the Jaigarh Fort. The world's biggest cannon, the Jaivan or Jai Ban is housed here. The fort also has an armoury and a museum that are open to the public. Visitors can also view Shubhat Niwas (the Meeting hall of Warriors) that has a number of articles on display.

There are several wide water channels to harvest rainwater. The Fort also has three underground tanks. The largest among these could store 60,00,000 gallons of water. It was believed that this tank contained hidden treasure and the Indian Government even searched for it but nothing was ever found.

The stone ramparts of Jaigarh Fort are even visible from Jaipur. The Entrance fee is Rs. 10 for Indians and Rs. 20 for Foreign Tourists.
